Take Care of Your Personal Health This Holiday Season | AICA College ParkTraveling during the holidays is never easy. With long car trips, heavy traffic, and antsy children, it is easy to allow it to affect you negatively. It is important to know how to stay healthy this holiday season, which is already underway. Our College Park chiropractors know what you need to stay healthy and happy while celebrating with your family this year.

Plan Ahead With Personal Health In Mind

The holiday season can sometimes be a hectic time of year with all the planning and travel. This can leave you fatigued from lack of sleep. Sleep deprivation can decrease your mood, increase your appetite, and cause your health to begin to decline. So, what do you do about it? Try and make getting enough sleep a priority. Take naps when you can. If you are traveling with companions, take turns driving and sleep along the way when it is not your turn at the wheel. If you are flying, bring along a travel pillow and sleep mask. Sleep deficits are not easily made up and resting after the holiday is over will not be enough. When you do not have enough sleep, your overall health can be negatively impacted long-term.

Knowing how to properly manage your stress in a healthy manner is also important. As good as it may feel to eat a few extra cookies and drink eggnog to improve your mood, it is not the best option for your health. Try relying on other stress reducers like getting a massage, doing your shopping online to avoid the mad dash to the mall, doing some yoga, or even do something as simple as relax on the couch in comfortable clothes and read a book. If you take some time to yourself, it will be on your way to reducing your stress and managing what you do have in a positive manner.

With the hustle and bustle of the season, maintaining your exercise routine can prove to be challenging. It is important to keep your body moving during the holidays. If you are traveling and staying in a hotel, you can utilize the exercise facilities or swim in the pool. If you are staying with friends and family, plan outings together that involve being active like walking, ice skating, or hiking, weather permitting. Even just 20 minutes of moderate activity will keep you on track to jump right into your exercise routine when you get home.
